Welcome to My Website

The 2012 Challenges

Since 2010 I've tried to set myself at least one major challenge.  In 2010 it was to lose my weight and get fit.  In 2011 in was to summit Mera Peak in Nepal.  I'm pleased to say I managed those challenges and neither of them was easy.  That meant I was looking for a challenge for 2012 so I started to look around.  I came up with The Wall which is a 65 mile ultramarathon in Northumberland taking place on 23 and 24 June.  I figured that would be enough but Tyla, my personal trainer thought there might be more.  Anyway, somehow I'm now doing

15 April - The Edinburgh Rock & Roll Half Marathon

27 May - The Edinburgh Marathon

23/24 June - The Wall

7 July - Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

15/16 September - The Scottish Coast to Coast

I've decided to bundle them all together and raise money for charity, although I've not yet decided which charity I'm going to support.  Oh yes and on top of that, I've enrolled onto the Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer course.  So a busy year ahead of me but to steal a quote - the only one who can tell you "you can't" is you.  And you don't have to listen.

I'm being supported by a great team though and my website will shortly be getting a makeover to show a dedicated page for my coming adventures.  Thanks for supporting me.

The website and training....

I'm afraid the gremlins got to the website over the last few weeks and caused all sorts of chaos!!  My web developer has had to restore the site from backups so some stuff might be missing or the odd link might not work anymore.

Anyway my training for The Wall has stepped up a pace now and both Tyla and Denise have got me working to a pretty intensive training programme which basically involves total body workouts.  I've been having a hassle with my glute/hamstring and it wasn't really clearing up so Denise suggested pilates - but not any old pilates.  I contacted Caroline Toshack and I've now had two sessions with her and things are back on track.  If you have doubts about pilates then don't.  But my advice would be to contact a specialist for one-to-one advice and guidance.  The training is going well and I'm starting to feel all round strong.

I've also been busy with three Jog Scotland groups ranging from total beginners to intermediate runners and I'm really enjoying training other folk.  So much so that I'm now thinking about embarking onto the Certificate in Personal Training.

So life is a bit hectic to say the least - but I'm feeling good and beginning to think I can actually pull this challenge of!!

Jog Scotland Leader....

Well I'm very pleased to say that I've just qualified as a Jog Scotland Leader so now all I have to do is get a jogging/running group going and build from there.  The course was really good although it is pretty intensive for a one day course and you probably need a little bit of knowledge before you go on it.  I'll soon be getting a dedicated page on my site for my Jog Scotland activities so if you are in Edinburgh keep an eye on the site for more information.

What if....

What if we didn't take it to our limits........Wouldn't we be forever dissatisfied?"  Doug Scott
